Voices from the RNC Protest Organizing Conference

The Colombia Action Network was represented at the conference to plan for September 1st and participated in a discussion about how to have Latin America represented in the march on the Republican National Convention. We'll keep you in the loop on the Latin America solidarity contingent and the CAN's plans as we get closer to the convention. In the mean time you can listen to parts of the main plenary speeches. Colombian Official's Brothers Implicated in Wrongdoing

The brothers of Colombia's attorney general allowed outlawed paramilitary fighters in 2005 to use the vehicles of a provincial public hospital one of them heads, a former paramilitary leader has told prosecutors. Rodolfo Enrique Guevara Cantillo, former No. 2 in the Northern Bloc of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, made the allegations against Angel Maya and Hernán Maya, both brothers of Attorney General Edgardo Maya.

Protest the Sentencing of Colombian Revolutionary Ricardo Palmera, December 3 in Washington D.C.

On December 3rd Colombian revolutionary Ricardo Palmera faces sentencing in a Washington D.C. federal court. The National Committee to Free Ricardo Palmera will pack the courtroom in support of this brave freedom fighter. Ricardo Palmera is a peace negotiator for Colombia’s rebels - the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). The U.S. extradited Palmera to a prison outside Washington D.C. and hold him in solitary confinement - no family, no friends, no reporters, not even his own Colombian lawyer. Palmera only defends his country and fights for freedom and democracy for the Colombian people.
